Plant of the Week: April 7, 2022- Potentilla anserina (Argentina)- Common Silverweed
The Common Silverweed is a perennial that blooms April through October. It can grow up to 1 ft tall and spread runners like strawberries. You can find this plant in wet areas with full to part sun, around beaches or river banks. Their leaves are green, oval shaped, and sharply toothed, while they flowers are yellow with 5 petals. This plant is easy to grow, grows fast, and can be used for erosion control. The bright flowers attract pollinators, especially butterflies! The roots can be eaten raw or cooked; and can be stored for winter. The leaves are also edible and have been used for tea.
