If you didn’t make it to the Co-op for your free Cascara or Sitka spruce, don’t worry we’ve got leftovers and we’re giving them away this Friday for Arbor Day at Plantas Nativa!
These native trees are resilient, beautiful, easy to grow, and great for both containers and gardens. Help us restore local ecosystems, support pollinators, and plant with purpose

Free Trees for Earth Day?! You heard that right! 
We’ve teamed up with the Bellingham Community Food Co-op to celebrate Earth Day by giving away FREE native tree starts—because what’s more sustainable than planting a tree?!
Swing by either Co-op location on Tuesday, April 22 from 2–6 PM to grab your very own:
Cascara (AKA the “Ex-Lax tree”) – Grows up to 30 feet tall with glossy green leaves and berries birds love. Sitka Spruce – A stunning, deer-resistant conifer with bluish-green needles and sky-high potential.These native trees are resilient, low-maintenance, and container-friendly if you’re short on space. Each one comes with easy planting instructions, courtesy of your friends at Plantas Nativa.
As Bay, owner of Plantas Nativa says, “It’s easier to find a place to plant a tree than to find a bathroom downtown.”
