Sambucus cerulea - Blue Elderberry

Product Details

Height: This multi stem, deciduous shrub can grow from 5 to 25 ft. tall

Habitat: Grows best in moist to dry soil in full to part sun.

Foliage: Opposite, lances shaped, serrated, green leaves.

Flowers: Many, small, cream colored flowers form an umbrella shaped cluster in May though June.

Fruits: Oval shaped blue berries the form in hanging clusters.

Bark: Light brown thin bark that turns gray brown with age.

Natural Habitat: Found along forest edges and road sides.

Why is it good for my garden? Blue elderberry is a great shrub with showy flowers and berries. Berries must be cooked to be eaten and are used from jams to syrups. Wildlife enjoy the berries as well.
