Ribes divaricatum - Coast Black Gooseberry

Product Details

Height: This deciduous shrub can grow from 3 to 10 ft. tall and has thorns.

Habitat: Grows best in wet to moist to well drained soil in full to part sun.

Foliage: Alternate, round, lobed, toothed, green leaves.

Flowers: Small, drooping, 5 petal, white flowers with red small leaves around it bloom in small clusters April though May.

Fruits: Black, round, edible fruit

Bark: Gray to brown bark with thorns.

Natural Habitat: Grows from the coast to wetland and canyons.

Why is it good for my garden? Coast black gooseberry is a thorny plant so may not be the best for a lot of areas but the berries make it worth having at least one in your yard. Loved by birds and other pollinators.
