Pinus contorta v. contorta - Shore Pine

Product Details

Height: This evergreen tree can grow from 40 to 50 ft. tall.

Habitat: Grows best in moist to dry soil in full to part sun. This tree is highly adaptable and can tolerate low nutrient conditions.

Foliage: Dark green needles that are usually in pairs grow all the way around the stems.

Fruits: Brown egg shaped cone.

Bark: Thin reddish brown bark that is scaly.

Natural Habitat: Found from dry sand dunes to coastal forest.

Why is it good for my garden? Considered an ornamental, may be used in traditional wildlife gardens or natural landscaping. Smaller varieties are used in container gardening, including bonsai. Shore pine have candles which when broken can stunt growth of the tree and make it more shrubby.
