Geum triflorum - Prairie Smoke

Product Details

Height: This perennial can grow from 6 to 12 inches tall

Habitat: Grows best in moist to dry soil in full to part sun to full shade.

Foliage: Feathery, fuzzy, toothed, delicate, green to gray green.

Flowers: Flowers start out with a dark pink to red outer and open to a pink to almost white center. They are bell shaped pointing to the ground. Bloom April though August.

Fruit: As the flowers die a beautiful fuzzy seed head forms. This looks like a puff of pink to white feathers. This is how this flower sometimes gets the common name of old mans whiskers.

Natural Habitat: Found in moist prairies and meadows to forests.

Why is it good for my garden? Prairie smoke has such a beautiful texture to it that it is a must have for your garden. This delicate plant is becoming an endangered species in parts of the US. Great little plant for rock gardens or just a little accent along a pathway. Pollinators like this plant as well.
