Height: This deciduous small tree or shrub can get 5 to 12 ft. tall and wide.
Habitat: Grows best in full sun but will tolerate full shade. Likes a moist area.
Foliage: Opposite, leathery, dark green aromatic foliage.
Flowers: Large, fragrant, maroon flowers that bloom in the summer.
Bark: The brown bark then scratched has a strong smell ( a camphor smell).
Natural Habitat: Found along streams and rivers in moist areas in Klickitat County and in California.
Why is it good for my garden? The western sweetshrub in bloom is so beautiful. It would be great in an area with moist soil and full sun.
