November 3, 2022: Plant of the Week- Deschampsia cespitosa (Tufted Hairgrass)
The Deschampsia cespitosa, or Tufted Hairgrass is a clumping perennial grass that can grow from 1 to 3 feet tall. It’s found widely from coastal marshes to moist areas in the mountains. It grows best in moist to well drained soil with full to part sun. The foliage is flat, narrow leaves with numerous stems. While the flowers are brown seed packs that form in Spring, and become feathery in the Summer! This plant can be a great addition to your garden, as it stabilizes soil in areas. It can also tolerate salt spray, and attracts pollinators!
