September 8, 2022: Plant of the Week- Symphoryotrichum subspicatum (Douglas Aster)

The Siymphoryotrichum subspicatum, or Douglas Aster is a rhizomatous, perennial that can grow from 1 to 3 feet tall. This plant is found along moist wood, stream banks, and shore lines. It grows best in well drained soil with full to part sun. The leaves are long, lance shaped and toothed. While the flowers are purple with and orange to yellow center, that bloom July through September. This plant adds great fall flower color to your garden, and provides long lasting flowers that attract pollinators!
