Height: This small tree or shrub can grow up to 25 feet tall.
Habitat: Grows well in moist soil and partial sun but can adapt well to most locations with proper watering
Foliage: Leaves have 7-9 lobes, toothed, hairy on the lower and upper surface; opposite; 5-12 cm across; deciduous, turn a stunning yellow and bright red in fall.
Flowers: Small flowers in spring (March to June); in clusters at ends of shoots; white; 6-9 mm across turn into winged seeds are paired and arranged in a straight line; green, becoming reddish-brown
Bark: stems pale green; become dull green with maturity
Natural Habitat: Moist to wet places, generally under other trees where some light reaches the forest floor; sometimes open areas like shrubfields, clearcuts, or lava flows; low to middle elevations.
Why is it good for my garden? This shrubby tree can be a brilliant fire-engine red in the fall on open sites to bring some color to your garden in the autumn.
